My Challenge 2014

Over the past five years or so I have catalogued all my print books. One of the categories is ‘Not Read’. I currently have about 120 books in this category. My challenge is to get that down below 110 by the end of the year. Ten books in nineteen weeks may not sound like a lot, but some of the books are weighty, in size as well as subject matter. Not all of them will appear in this blog as some are out of print.

In addition to my unread print books, I have over 160 unread books on my Kindle. Twenty of those are Complete Works by various ‘classical’ authors. That means I have more than 140 individual books unread, and at least 400 or so unread ‘classics’. I’m not setting myself a challenge to reduce the number of books on my Kindle. That number is increasing all the time because of their Daily and Monthly deals. For obvious reasons, all my Kindle books will be reviewed. (What have I let myself in for!)

I’ve worked out that it will take me nearly 2.5 years to read my ‘Not Read’ books if I manage to read one a week. Reading my Kindle books at the same rate will take 10 years, assuming I don’t buy any more. (Like that’s going to happen!) If I re-read all the other books I own, this blog will last for ever.
